A truly enjoyable book. Having been to the PNW, the Olympic Penninsula, Neah Bay, the Rain Forest, and having seen the complete rape of the forested areas, this book made me aware all over again. The majority of the population has no concept of what has transpired on our forested lands, and maybe the majority just doesn't give a crap about the trees we have lost, or the landslides resulting from these losses. After all, it's not like it's in their backyard if they live in the Midwest or Southwest, or even the East. Ms. Stokes has woven a neat little mystery in with a history lesson, and an ecological statement. And, she has done a fantastic job.Tags : The Tree People [Naomi M. The 4 and 5 star reviewers have to be desperate tree huggers searching for any book to brag up their cause. The author uses way too many superlatives in describing people and nature. Practically every person is either extremely beautiful or breathtakingly handsome. I've read good science fiction books with unbelievable things happening but a good author makes them interesting. This book is unbelievable and boring.
I have read this book many times and never stop loving it. I have given away several copies. I had to purchase it again because I always want to have it in my library.
An awesome book of mystery and northwest Native culture.
I read this book before. Lent it for a friend to read, she gave it away. I was glad I got it back to re read. It is worth keeping the rest of your life.
I enjoyed the setting and the motifs, although my sense is that the Native American bits were a little over-romanticized.
This novel was a perfect selection for my son's 8th-grade report. I'd read it years ago while staying at the Quinault Lodge, Olympic National Park, WA. It has love, lore and a bit of magic that kept me reading all the way through. My son enjoyed this book, as he learned a lot about a culture near to us The Quinault Nation.
Recommended by a friend, but couldn't find it as an e-book. Broke down and bought the hard copy and glad I did. A real page turner (the prologue is a little confusing but it all makes sense later)
